A British soldier from the 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment was shot dead yesterday during a battle with insurgents in southern Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Defence said he was part of a security cordon providing protection to enable a meeting between local elders and Afghan troops in Nad-e Ali, Helmand. His family has been in informed. The British death toll in the Afghan campaign now stands at 332.
