British defence officials say a British soldier has died in an explosion in Afghanistan.
Officials say the soldier was killed while on foot patrol in volatile Helmand province. He was from the 2nd Battalion of The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.
His family was told of his death hours after it occurred this morning. His name has not yet been released.
The soldier's death brings the British military death toll in Afghanistan to 103 for this year.
