South-east Asian nations endorsed Burma yesterday for the chairmanship of their regional grouping in 2014, gambling that the isolated country can stick to reforms that could lead it out of half a century of isolation.
But President Barack Obama said Burma must demonstrate more improvements in human rights after the regime freed hundreds of political prisoners and pledged more reforms.
