The blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng said yesterday that he was confident Beijing would hold up its end of a tentative deal to let him study in America.
Mr Chen, 40, escaped from house arrest and sought refuge in the US embassy before emerging last Wednesday.
He said: "Since the government has promised to safeguard my constitutionally provided rights and freedom and safety, I feel that they will fulfil their commitments, because it is after all an agreement between two countries."
