India is to launch a formal investigation into the planning and handling of the Commonwealth Games, a spokesman for the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, announced.
The inquiry, headed by a senior government official, will "look into all matters relating to the organising and conduct" of the Games, and draw "lessons". The Games were overshadowed by reports of poorly attended events and hastily built and unhygienic facilities for athletes.
