Pakistan's new president will be elected on 6 September, it was announced today.
Members of the federal and provincial assemblies must select a successor to Pervez Musharraf, who resigned last week to avoid impeachment charges.
Commission Secretary Kanwar Dilshad said the vote will take place on September 6, nomination papers will be accepted from August 26 and can be withdrawn until 30 August. He did not announce a final date for nominations.
Wrangling over who should be president is adding to the pressure on the shaky coalition government which pushed President Musharraf from power but disagrees on other key issues.
