Nearly half the $459m needed to fund initial relief efforts following Pakistan's worst-ever flooding has been secured after days of lobbying donors and warnings that the country faces a spiralling humanitarian catastrophe, the United Nations said yesterday.
Despite the fresh funds – and signs that the rain was easing – only a small minority of the six million Pakistanis affected by the floods have received help.
