Three Pakistan navy officers are to be court-martialled for "negligence" in connection with a dramatic Taliban attack on a base in Karachi last year.

The news of the military trial came as gunmen opened fire on a political rally in Karachi yesterday, killing at least nine people and provoking rioting.
