Man planning to sue parents for giving birth to him without his consent
Raphael Samuel describes himself as an 'anti-natalist' - someone who believes it is morally wrong for people to procreate
A 27-year-old man is planning to sue his parents for giving birth to him without his consent.
Raphael Samuel, a businessman from Mumbai, India, describes himself as an “anti-natalist” – a follower of a philosophy that believes it is morally wrong for people to procreate.
His beliefs have driven him to want to take his parents to court to protest the fact that they did not seek his consent before giving birth to him.
He appeared wearing sunglasses and a fake beard to explain his decision on a YouTube video he posted online.
“I want everyone in India and also the world to realise one thing: they are born without consent,” he said.
“I want them to understand they don’t owe their parents anything. I also want them to know that if we are born without our consent we should be maintained for our entire life, we should be paid to live.”
Mr Samuel claimed he has a good relationship with his parents, both of whom are lawyers, but started to feel anti-natalist when he was five-years-old.
A year ago he created a Facebook page to promote his ideas and regularly posts about his beliefs.
He has informed his parents of his desire to sue them but has not managed to find a lawyer to take his case.
Mr Samuels said he was aware a judge is likely to throw out his case but insists he wants to make a point, as he believes the earth would be a better place if there were no humans.
In a statement seen by the BBC his mother Kavita Karnad Samuel, said: “I must admire my son's temerity to want to take his parents to court knowing both of us are lawyers.
"And if Raphael could come up with a rational explanation as to how we could have sought his consent to be born, I will accept my fault.”
