Seven inmates have been killed in clashes that were triggered when officers in a Pakistani prison began searching for mobile phones.
The inmates, some of whom were armed, resisted the search at Hyderabad jail in southern Pakistan and the police were called in.
Regional prison chief Ghulam Qadir Thebo said calm had been restored by yesterday and authorities were investigating how the prisoners were killed. Pakistani prisons are overcrowded and are known for their poor conditions.
