An American soldier has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by a court in Seoul for raping a teenage girl.

About 28,500 US troops are stationed in South Korea and crimes involving them have fired anti-American sentiment among many South Koreans.

The soldier, 21, admitted robbery, rape and aggravated rape after threatening the 16-year-old with scissors, a knife and a lighter, after breaking in to her hostel room in September.
