Images of China's first aircraft carrier during its sea trials in the Yellow Sea have been captured by a commercial US satellite company.

It was photographed sailing for the first time last week, said DigitalGlobe, of Colorado.

The refitted Soviet vessel, which was called the Varyag, began its sea trials in August, raising concerns over Beijing's military build-up.
