A suspected suicide bomber attacked Pakistani police after a protest rally against power cuts in Peshawar yesterday killing 23 people. The blast went off in an area of the old city known as the Storytellers' Bazaar as a protest against power cuts organised by a religious party was breaking up. Several officials of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) religious party, which organised the protest, were among the dead, party members said.
The party has expressed sympathy for Islamist militants in the past. A police officer, Imran Kishwar, said that 23 people had been killed and 29 wounded. REUTERS
