The end of the cold war as Seoul sends socks
Activists have developed a new weapon in the propaganda war with North Korea: five giant balloons were released across the border yesterday, each carrying a box containing socks that will fall at random into northern territory.
It is hoped that North Koreans will wear the socks or use them to trade for food. Balloons have delivered propaganda in the past, but this is a first for expressing solidarity based on superior knitwear.
