A five-year-old girl had to be rescued by emergency services in China, after climbing out of a living room window and getting her head stuck between bars 70 metres above the ground.

The child had been locked in an apartment by herself in the Hubei province when she escaped out of the window of the apartment, which was on the 24th floor.

Neighbours raised the alarm and called police and fire officers after hearing the girls cry.

When emergency services arrived, they discovered the door to the property was locked from the inside.

After frantic attempts at rescuing the girl, firefighters can be seen freeing her by cutting through window bars with pliers.

A resident is also visible climbing out of a neighbour's window to reach her, assisting the firefighters by supporting the girl's weight from the other side.
