A woman complaining of marital problems committed suicide by jumping into a crocodile pit yesterday.

Tourists in Thailand watched in horror as Somaji Setabal was eaten alive by about 100 crocodiles. She threw herself into the enclosure after scaling a two-metre fence at the Famut Prakarn crocodile farm, on the outskirts of Bangkok.

She left a suicide note complaining about her husband. "The moment the first crocodile grabbed her body, she even hugged him. It was horrifying," said a park guide, Thanes Wiriyaporn.

"Two or three people a year come to commit suicide at the park, but are usually talked out of it," said Charoon Yangprapakorn, an executive of the park. "This woman showed no sign of depression or absent-mindedness like the others did, so nobody noticed her."
