A 6.1-magnitude earthquake has struck off the southern coast of Australia, according to Geoscience Australia.

Preliminary information said the quake had a depth of 15km (nine miles).

The quake struck 1,704km (1,058 miles) off the coast of Queenstown, Australia, at 8.58am GMT.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) put the quake at 5.9, with a depth of 10km (6.2 miles).

The quake was previously reported to be "potentially tsunamigenic," but there is no longer thought to be a tsunami risk.
