The Australian government has vetoed an attempt to bring a private war crimes prosecution against the Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, while he visits the country this week.
An Australian citizen, Arunachalam Jegatheeswaran, had lodged an indictment against the President, accusing Sri Lankan forces of war crimes during their offensive against Tamil Tigers in 2009.
