Nigel Farage’s fans have been heckled with chants of “Nazi scum” while attending an event during his week-long speaking tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Protest group United Against Bigtory and Racism (UABR) stood outside a venue in Perth with placards and banners to demonstrate against Mr Farage.

One woman held up a sign that read “Farage out Manning in”, referring to the fact that Chelsea Manning, the US whistle-blower, was denied a visa by the Australian government while Mr Farage was not.

Protesters also shouted “Nazi scum off our streets” at those who entered the 350-capacity hall as they walked in, according to the Guardian.

The spokeswoman for UABR, Claire Francis, said Mr Farage was indicative of a trend of politicians normalising and encouraging far right ideals.

Mr Farage however rejected criticism that his ideas were racist.

“How is it racist to say that countries should have a sensible immigration policy,” he told The West Australian.

“It is an extraordinary attempt to redefine political debate to call that racist and I would reject utterly that anything I do could be put into a racist context at all.”

Mr Farage is touring Australia and New Zealand where he will be speaking about Brexit, his time leading Ukip and his friendship with US President Donald Trump.

Tickets to the events cost between £50 and £166 and a one-to-one meeting plus a photo with Mr Farage will set you back £166.
