Pua Magasiva, the actor best known for his role as one of the Power Rangers, has died aged 38.

The New Zealand star shot to international fame after playing Shane Clarke, the Red Wind Ranger, in the superhero franchise in 2003.

Before that, he had made his name playing a nurse in his home country’s popular medical soap Shortland Street – a role he later returned to.

His body was found by police after they were called to an address in Wellington on Saturday morning, reports suggested.

A cause of death has not been revealed but officers said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Responding to the news, his Power Rangers co-star Jason Chan said on Facebook: "Incredibly sad to hear that one of our ranger family is gone. It will never be the same again.

“Pua, you will be so dearly missed. You were the centre of energy on set and off. Always laughing, giggling and involved in practical jokes."

A statement from the Shortland Street production company said: “We are all absolutely devastated at the tragic news regarding Pua Magasiva.

"Pua was a much loved member of the South Pacific Pictures' family for many years and our hearts and thoughts go out to Pua's family at this time.”

The Samoan-born star also had parts in TV programmes Outrageous Fortune and Diplomatic Immunity during a varied career.

His death came shortly after his first wedding anniversary with his wife, teacher Lizz Sadler, who he married just 18 months after they met on Instagram.

He leaves behind a daughter from his first marriage.
