Australians want a republic

Nearly seven out of 10 Australians want their country to replace the Queen as head of state and become a republic, according to an opinion poll published yesterday, Reuter reports from Canberra. But more than two-thirds of those wanting a republic also favoured Australia staying within the Commonwealth.
