LUSAKA (AFP) - Senior Malawi government officials led by President Kamuzu Banda's aide, John Tembo, met leaders of the opposition Alliance for Democracy (Aford) in the capital, Lilongwe. On Sunday Mr Banda said he would call a referendum on multi-party democracy. Another opposition group, the United Democratic Front, announced its office holders. Its chairman is Bakili Muluzi, a former cabinet minister. Aford is chaired by Chakufwa Chihana, who is facing sedition charges.
