Italy's Finance Minister Francesco Gallo asked Italy's fiscal police to be more lenient on beach-goers caught without receipts for items purchased at shore-front snack pavilions, AP reports from Milan.
Mr Gallo decided to bend under the protests of irate beach-goers that most bathing suits have no place to put a receipt. Italian laws to combat rampant tax evasion require buyers to keep receipts for several hours after the purchase.
