Thousands of Belgians marched on Brussels yesterday, in one of the largest demonstrations ever seen in the city, in protest against separatism, writes Sarah Lambert in Brussels.

The demonstration came after the first key package of legislation to make Belgium a federal state was passed by parliament on Friday. Some see the creation of a federal Belgium as further separating Flemish-speaking Flanders in the north and French-speaking Wallonia in the south.
