MONROVIA (AFP) - The bodies of three American nuns murdered in the Liberian capital have been found by the Nigerian-led Ecomog task force and will be repatriated by the US embassy, officials said here.
The discovery of the bodies in the eastern Gardnersville suburb, the area of the nuns' convent, came as Ecomog troops pushed forward into the rebel- held district at the weekend and re-established control, the interim government stated. An earlier statement read on national radio did not name the nuns, who were among five killed after Charles Taylor's rebels laid siege to Monrovia on 15 October.
