Honiara, Solomon Islands - A ceasefire will be declared on the island of Bougainville within seven days under a peace deal struck yesterday by Papua New Guinea's government and secessionist rebels. The agreement promises to end six years of guerrilla fighting for independence. It was signed by Sir Julius Chan, the Prime Minister, and Sam Kauona, commander of the Bougainville Revolutionary Army.
