Nigerian democracy groups claimed widespread success yesterday in a boycott of first-stage voting for a constitutional conference being organised by General Sani Abacha's military government, Reuter reports from Lagos. Reports indicated turn-out was impressive in the eastern state of Enugu and the northern state of Niger, but low in most other areas.
