SAO PAULO - Prison inmates in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul took more than 30 hostages and threatened to set them on fire unless the leader of a drug trafficking ring was released from jail. Police in the city of Porto Alegre said 10 inmates armed with knives and handguns were holding 32 hostages, including nurses and prison guards, inside the prison's hospital. AP
