Algiers - The president of Algeria's football federation was murdered early yesterday by suspected Islamic militants. Rachid Haraigue was killed by "armed terrorists" as he prepared to drive away from his home, officials said. "Terrorists" is the term used officially to designate Islamic fundamentalists fighting Algeria's military-backed secular regime.
The two most radical Islamic guerrilla groups in Algeria - the Islamic Salvation Army (AIS) and the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) - rejected the peace accord to end the civil war drawn up last week in Rome.
