ROME (Reuter) - The former prime minister, Giulio Andreotti, shook the Italian political world by announcing that he was under formal investigation for suspected Mafia activity. 'I am deeply distressed but not surprised,' he said. He is the most senior politician to become embroiled in a year-long corruption scandal.
