BUJA - Britain is ready to assist the Nigerian economy once a deal has been made with the International Monetary Fund, Mr Hurd said on Monday at the start of a 48-hour official visit, AFP reports.

'Once you reach an agreement with the IMF, the way is open for your friends in the Paris and London Clubs,' said Mr Hurd, responding to a plea from his Nigerian counterpart for British help in cutting Nigeria's debt.
