British have domestic agenda in European elections

A MAJORITY of British voters - 56 per cent - will use next month's European election to pass judgement on national government policies and John Major's performance, according to a European Commission survey published yesterday. The poll looks set to bring verdicts on domestic politics in other EU member states. Sixty-four per cent of Irish voters, 65 per cent in Portugal and 75 per cent in Greece will be voting on national issues. The survey shows disillusion with Europe is on the increase in Britain: less than half thought membership was a 'good thing'.
