Hong Kong rescue helicopters plucked 26 survivors from raging seas yesterday after their ship went down as Typhoon Koryn, fresh from wreaking havoc in the Philippines, swept towards the Chinese coast, Reuter reports from Hong Kong.

But the British captain of the MV Liangang was reported by maritime authorities to have drowned when the freighter sank 70 miles south-east of Hong Kong. One seaman was still missing.
