Ceasefire hope
The Georgian leader, Eduard Shevardnadze, expressed optimism that a ceasefire in the breakaway province of Abkhazia would hold, Reuter reports from Sukhumi. After the first quiet night in the regional capital in months, he said: 'The main thing is that we are establishing communication with the Abkhazian side to guarantee the ceasefire.'
