Singapore, in an apparent defence of a controversial ban on chewing gum, released statistics showing the measure has helped the island city maintain its squeaky-clean image, Reuter reports from Singapore. The average amount of chewing gum litter in subway stations dropped to two cases per day last month from 525 in December 1991.
