President Bill Clinton yesterday confirmed that China's trading privileges in the US will be renewed for another year, but warned that Peking would have to show future progress on human rights, writes Raymond Whitaker.
Mr Clinton is expected to issue an executive order today, spelling out the conditions China will have to meet next year to keep its Most Favoured Nation trading status. Whatever those are, Peking will be relieved at the removal of any immediate threat to the country's rampant economic growth.
