President Suleyman Demirel asked Tansu Ciller to form a government yesterday, giving Muslim Turkey its first female prime minister, Reuter reports from Ankara.
As the new leader of True Path, Turkey's largest party, Ms Ciller said she wanted to review the terms of the ruling coalition. 'President Demirel has used his constitutional prerogative and has charged me with forming the new government,' Ms Ciller said. 'It was a very warm exchange.'
