WASHINGTON - President Bill Clinton said he was temporarily holding back on his plan to send a special envoy to Northern Ireland, saying such a move would be inappropriate, AFP reports.

'I don't want to do anything that undermines the peace process,' Mr Clinton added.

Earlier, the President said that he had named Jean Kennedy Smith, a sister of John F Kennedy, as the US ambassador to Ireland.
