The Prime Minister of Congo, Joachim Yhombi- Opango, ordered a night-time curfew in the capital, Brazzaville, after a soldier was shot dead in clashes with opposition militants, Reuter reports from Brazzaville.
He said four soldiers were wounded in gun fights with opposition supporters during protests over a disputed parliamentary election. Troops and armoured vehicles broke up the demonstrations and heavy shooting continued throughout the day.
