US space agency engineers lost all communications with the Mars Observer probe three days before it was due to settle into orbit around Mars, officials said yesterday, Reuter reports from Los Angeles. Contact was lost on Saturday during a manoeuvre in which the Observer's propulsion system was being primed for placing the probe into orbit around Mars tomorrow, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration said.
