Cook Islanders reject McDonald's

Cook Islanders have voted to keep their flag with the Union Jack and rejected a plan to give the country a new Maori name, AP reports from Cook Islands. Voters also reelected the Prime Minister, Sir Geoffrey Henry, on Friday and gave his Cook Islands Party 20 of the 25 parliamentary seats, three more than in the last session. The Minister of Marine Resources, Ben Toma, who campaigned to bring a McDonald's restaurant to his remote island of Manihiki, was defeated. But absentee ballots may reverse the five-vote loss.
