Tension in Crimea mounted when the Ukrainian peninsula's pro- Russian leadership accused Kiev of attempting a 'military coup' and considered measures moving it closer to secession, Reuter reports from Simferopol. There were reports that Ukraine had dispatched 1,000 crack troops to Crimea but Ukrainian authorities dismissed the reports as fantasy.
