Damage in Guam

AGANA, GUAM (Agencies) - One person was killed, more than 100 were injured and about 5,000 were left homeless when Typhoon Omar smashed into Guam on Friday afternoon. President Bush declared the US territory a disaster area, making it eligible for federal assistance.

Tropical Storm Polly dumped heavy rains on Philippine provinces near Mount Pinatubo yesterday, triggering a cascade of volcanic debris that killed five people, washed away bridges and forced thousands of villagers to flee their homes.
