The Hague - The Dutch authorities agreed yesterday to speed up a 2.8bn guilder (£1bn) programme to strengthen the country's battered river dykes.
The government plan, under which 600km of old dykes will be strengthened by the year 2000, is expected to be approved today, the Dutch ANP news agency said. Reuter
