LOS ANGELES (Reuter) - Two moderate earthquakes rocked a broad area of southern California yesterday, jangling residents' nerves but causing no damage or injuries. A quake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck in the early evening and was followed just over three hours later by one measuring 4.5. Both were centred near the ski resort of Big Bear Lake, east of Los Angeles.
Seismologists at the California Institute of Technology said there were strong aftershocks to two powerful earthquakes that hit the area on 28 June, killing a child and causing damage costing dollars 100m (pounds 66m).
