The East Timor independence leader, Jose Ramos Horta, accused Indonesian troops of using gunfire and bayonets to break up a demonstration in a hotel lobby "under the nose" of a UN peace-maker. He said 18 young East Timorese were seriously wounded in the weekend clash in the island's capital, Dili, where the UN special envoy, Jamsheed Marker, was staying. Reuters - Geneva
