LONDON - Sixto Duran Ballen, 70, the former mayor of Quito, looked set to win Ecuador's presidential election run-off yesterday against Jaime Nebot, 45, writes Colin Harding. Both candidates are right-wingers, promising to introduce free-market reforms and bring Ecuador into line with the rest of Latin America. Mr Duran led in final opinion polls, with 58 per cent to Mr Nebot's 36 per cent. The current president, Rodrigo Borja, of the Democratic Left, has pursued interventionist policies that have set Ecuador apart from the rest of the continent.
