An Ethiopian hijacker armed with a knife surrendered in Rome after seizing an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 757 plane over West Africa in an attempt to secure political asylum in Italy, Reuter reports from Rome. Ethiopia's ambassador to Italy said the hijacker, Mulat Getachew, 25, told him he was a former officer in the armed forces.
