JERUSALEM - Israel and the Palestinians are 'very close' to reaching an agreement on the first stage of Palestinian self-rule, Shimon Peres, the Israeli Foreign Minister, said yesterday, AFP reports.
In a television interview, Mr Peres said: 'We are very close to an agreement on the establishment of autonomy in a section of the (occupied) territories, primarily in Gaza and also perhaps in Jericho', on the West Bank.
