BERLIN (AP) - About 40 right-wing extremists tried to storm a home for refugees in the eastern German town of Stendal, but police drove them back, authorities said yesterday. The thwarted attack, and a firebomb attack at a refugee shelter in Oschersleben, indicated that anti-foreigner riots that have hit the northern city of Rostock may be spreading.
Rostock itself was quiet after five nights of rioting by radical right wingers, but police said they expected more trouble this weekend.
